Terminator Salvation Set Visit: The Plot

Source: Scott Chitwood On Comingsoon.net

SPOILER WARNING!!
While chatting with production designer Martin Laing, he ushered us into a room absolutely filled with dozens of pieces of production paintings. Then he did the unthinkable. He walked us through the plot of the entire movie. His description is focused on the character of Marcus, so I know he left out a lot of details about John Connor as well as the final ending. But never have I been on a set visit where so much of the movie was revealed. McG also filled in additional details of the plot as we chatted with him later. Here's what they had to say.helena-bonham-carter-as-serena_korgen-terminator-salvation-spoiler-pic Read More...

Transformers Revenge

Where to begin, i didn’t know we were so close to the sequel to this film . Transformers’ history is similar to that of G.I. Joe. Toy-line, Comic book, cartoon, Movie.
Although when i was a kid you would never believe that it could be done. THe first movie was ok, a little blurry for my taste. I guess when everything is seen a human eye level its hard to see everything clearly ( if it were all real). but I digress, this one looks like they went bonkers. Read More...

Star Trek Extreme

Star Trek was also previewed during the Big Game. As you may already know this “episode” is the sequel to the prequel before the first tv episodes and before the first feature film.... whew, sweating just thinking about that. Ok so in this movie, we see the beginnings of Captain James T Kirk before he becomes the beloved or hated William Shatner. Also in this film we have our “Heroes” star Sylar if you watch as Mr Spock in his early old days. Spock as you may know lives longer than humans do. Read More...

New G.I. Joe movie is finally ready

The New long awaited G.I Joe movie based loosely on the Hasbro line of toys is finally coming to theaters. To think i uesed to collect the action figures. The figures first launched in 1964, representing our boys in military garb, and various weapons. After the barbie sized figures slowed in sales, it was relaunched after the star wars outbreak of action figures in the late 70’s early 80’s.
The toys were then turned into an action comic by Marvel and later into a cartoon which later turned into a comic again by another comic company. Read More...

Tron 2 in the wild?

“Tron” story is about a hacker who is literally abducted into the world of a computer and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is with the help of a heroic security program.

The first movies visual FX were basic but back in the day it was the best we have seen. You will see one of the main character Jeff Bridges in one of his “make me famous” movies.

This is the Sneak peak at “Tron 2” Good ol’ Jeff is back and the crowd goes wild. This video was sneakily recorded at the Comic Con where Disney gave fans a presentation. One of the best scenes in both videos is the “light cycle” where the bikes travel at high speeds and create a wall barrier made of solid light. Ok it sounds bad but the effect is very cool.

One of the best scenes of the older “Tron” film with the “light cycles”

JJ Abrams has mastered marketing 2.0 for films.

JJ Abrams, has marketed his latest film using every trick of the entertainment and marketing 2.0 world. Starting with using handheld prosumer cameras to film the entire film ( Video) to creating multiple fake sites of corporations (as well as corporate protesters ) that secretly give back story to the film "Cloverfield") then making them closedown as if the gov't closed them as an act of terrorism, creating a artificial soft drink that began its history on "Alias" and making the company that makes the drink come to life online and secretly link it to the main backstory of the monster (SLUSHO).

Also doing a
Japanese comic, releasing videos that look like news coverage of disasters in the ocean (caused by the Cloverfield monster) in every language thinkable. Even the strange site we thought was the original "Cloverfield" site which showed photos from the film among other things, http://www.1-18-08.com/. JJ Abrams clearly knew what he was doing.
Geeksofdoom explains:
" Well, as it turns out, main character Rob revealed a few weeks ago on his MySpace Blog that the job he’s taking in Japan is as the V.P. of Marketing and Promotions for Slusho. Slusho happens to be owned by Tagruato and the company’s CEO Ganu Yoshida was planning a trip to NYC to meet with the owner of BevVo, the largest privatized water manufacturer in the world, to discuss distributing Slusho through pre-established public waterways and to tour potential Slusho manufacturing plants in the United States.
T.I.D.O. is against Tagruato because they claim that Tagruato’s research and practices are destroying our oceans, which would be the cause for T.I.D.O.’s alleged guerilla tactics.
2008-01-21-cfmanga01
Now, how does this involve the monster? A recently released Japanese online manga tie-in (said to be the first issue of four) (ENGLISH TRANSLATED VERSION)follows the story of Kishin, a Japanese boy who, along with his mother, has something to do with the monster. Simultaneously, we’re shown a cargo ship at sea pulling something chained to the back; we don’t seen exactly what’s being pulled until the last panel when a pair eyes emerges from the water. The ship bears the Targuato logo.
So, that ship could be pulling the “Coverfield” monster OR possibly its mother. According to the film’s production notes, Abrams claims that “Clover” is a baby who’s been “down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years.” In the film, it’s insinuated that the confused, frightened monster sprung up from New York Harbor (hence, its first target, The Statue of Liberty) where it either overturned an oil tanker or was disturbed by a capsized oiler tank. According to
Cloverfield News, the oil tanker looks like it too bears the Targuato logo.
According to
FSR, director Matt Reeves revealed to them that in the final scene with Rob and Beth on the ferris wheel at Coney Island a month before the monster attack, something can be seen splashing into the water behind them. (The clue was to “Watch the skies, my friends. Watch the skies. &rdquoWinking. Speculation is that this was the monster either falling into the water, or just splashing around in it. (See image just below at right of the splash in the water.)
2008-01-21-cfconey01
But, if the monster was down in the water for thousands of years already, how could it have fallen from the sky? Another theory is that it could be the rogue piece that recently fell off the Japanese government’s “ChimpanzIII” satellite. Why? Because according to the Tagruato Web site, coincidentally, Tagruato scientists and engineers are working on tracking down the missing piece which disappeared into the Atlantic Ocean (the Targuato site is currently “down for maintenance&rdquoWinking. Perhaps the fallen satellite is what disturbed the monster’s slumber. Also, according to Cloverfield Ending Credits, the main ingredient for Slusho is found at the satellite deep ocean dropzone and that while searching for satellite and ingredients, Targuato woke the Cloverfield monster. The main ingredient of Slusho apparently has the power to turn a tiny fish into a huge whale (explains the monster’s size) and since deep sea creatures naturally have very high heat resistance, this is why the monster was unaffected by the military bomb attacks.
Whatever the cause, the skyscraper-sized monster is awake now and seemly impervious to military assaults. The filmmakers realized that because of the monster’s size and strength, there’d be no way for the human characters to have intimate contact and combat with it. That’s where all those smaller spider/crab-like parasites come in. If the monster started out as a baby with maybe microscopic parasites on it, it would make sense that if the monster grew to a much larger size, so would the parasites. Apparently, once the monster tore into the city, it was able to remove these pests from its body by rubbing its back against a building, thereby setting the fast-paced and now very vicious parasites free to ravage the citizens of New York City.
2008-01-21-cfemergency02
And here’s where we get into the super-unknown territory. While we know that the monster is just scared and hungry, chomping away on the tiny little humans, what we don’t know is what the parasites are out for. Typically, a parasite will attach itself and live off a larger organism. In the film, the parasites are smaller than the humans and are attacking by biting. Perhaps they are just blood-sucking parasites? There’s no evidence that they enter the human bodies and take over their new host. Either way, the affects of their attack on the humans is unexplained. Soon after Marlena, one of the main characters, is bitten, she begins bleeding from the eyes and then it seems like her stomach explodes (the audience doesn’t get to see this up close, since Marlena is behind a tarp when this happens and only the outline of her body is shown).
2008-01-21-cfroof01
Why don’t we see the gore? In case you didn’t know, Cloverfield is filmed from the perspective of Hud, Rob’s best friend, who was tasked with the recording of Rob’s going-away party. It’s Hud, who, armed with a handycam, captures the Statue of Liberty’s head crashing onto the street in front of their building. From there, Hud and Rob, along with their friends Marlena, Lily, and James, attempt to cross the Brooklyn Bridge during a mandatory evacuation of New York City. Rob then receives a phone call from the woman he loves, Beth, who’s injured and trapped in her apartment in midtown — the opposite direction of the evacuation route. That’s when the group decides to turn back to rescue Beth. Their journey — interspersed with footage of the monster’s rampaging — is all captured by Hud’s shaky video camera work, which is why certain aspects of the film are left to the audience’s imagination.
Where does Coney Island come in? Rob’s brother James took Rob’s video camera to use at the party, but never put in a new tape. (Why Rob would have a camera that still requires tape is quite interesting, considering the camera seems to have a very high battery life as well as night vision of all things!) Hud was inadvertently recording over footage taken a month prior when Rob and Beth spent the day together. (Rob had always been in love with Beth, but they had been “just friends” until that day when, unbeknownst to their friends, they slept together, then spent the next day having fun in Coney Island). This is why the old footage of Rob and Beth will periodically appear on screen and why the movie ends with the couple on the ferris wheel.
What happened to the monster, the parasites, and the rest of the city? Reports from movie-goers are that if you stay until the movie’s end credits, you can hear someone say “Help us.” This could mean that Rob and Beth, who at the end were trapped under a bridge in Central Park after the military bombed it, could still be alive. Also, it’s said that if you play the audio backward, you can hear someone say, “It’s still alive,” which could mean that the Cloverfield monster is still alive.
As far as the humans go, even if Rob and Beth didn’t survive, Lily was evacuated by military helicopter and last we saw, she survived. We know from the beginning of the movie that the reason we’re seeing this film is because some time after the attack the tape was retrieved. But, we also know that the morning after the attack, the military was going to destroy NYC if they couldn’t defeat the monster. Since the bridge in Central Park where Rob and Beth were hiding under gets bombed by the military that morning, it can be assumed that Manhattan is destroyed. OR, perhaps, since the monster conveniently showed up in Central Park, maybe the military was able to kill the monster and maybe even save Rob and Beth.
2008-01-21-cfphotos02
Judging by the tape’s survival and the new pictures that were posted on the film’s official site, either the monster was defeated or it gave up the attack and left the city. (I think it’s the latter.) One photo from the site shows a man in a small boat floating in bloodied water; another shows the bloody, bitten into carcass of a whale or some other sea creature. (See the images here after left; click for larger view.)
So, with a film this successful, what about the inevitable sequel?
B-D spoke with director Matt Reeves, who said, “Only time will tell. While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today’s day and age of people filming their lives on their iphones and handy cams, uploading it to youtube…That was kind of exciting thinking about that.” So, if there’s a sequel, it might be chronicling the same events, but through the lens of another person’s perspective.
It’s obvious, though, that this is not the last we’ve seen of Cloverfield."

Here is Mr. Abrams in an interview about how this all came to be.

Cloverfield... ITS HERE! *SPOILER* "updated"

More Cloverfield info after you read this...

Film opens. Screen is blank for a while, then it starts flasihing colours and you discover that this is a copy of a government video not to be duplicated. It says Camera found at Area 449 (I think the number was like that I can’t remember exactly what it was), formerly known as Central Park. It describes the Cloverfield incident.

Film opens with rob filming NY from the window in Beth’s dad’s apartment. He walks along the corridor and films the photos in the hall and walks into the room and films Beth while she is sleeping in bed Beth wakes up and talks to Rob for a minute before the camera cuts to her trying to catch fruit in her mouth that Rob is throwing at her lying in bed.
Film cuts to Jason filming Lily (his girlfriend) who is telling him that he is going to be in charge of the camera while at the party. He goes over to Hud who is helping prepare Rob’s leaving party and tells him is he is going to be in charge of the camera at the party and he just has to go around and get everybody to film a farewell message for Rob, like they do at weddings. Party happens (Rob has been promoted to vice president in Japan).

Hud is in charge of filming the party. At the part you discover that Rob has slept with Beth and they have a fight in the hallway about it.
Monster attacks during the party. All the main characters are going to die sometime in the film.
The monster looks like a big dinosaur crossed with an alien and tarantula like creatures fall off it.
Rob and Beth have a fight at the party and she leaves with a guy she bought to the party. Soon after she leaves the monster attacks and everybody leaves the party and they hide in a shop. when they go out onto the street they see buildings collapsing and they decide they have to get out of NY, They head to the Brooklyn Bridge and there Beth calls Rob saying she is trapped and can’t move.
They stop on the bridge even though they are meant to be moving and Jason (Rob’s brother) climbs up higher too see what is happening and at that minute the monster attacks and kills Jason. They start running as the bridge collapses behind them. They go into a electronic store because Rob’s mobile battery has run out and they see what is happening on T.V. They go into the subway and Rob’s mother calls and he tells her Jason is dead.
They (Rob, Lily, Marlena ad Hud) decide to start walking the train tracks because Rob wants to go and save Marlena because off her message on the bridge. Hud makes lots of jokes about a homeless guy that lives near train tracks and likes to light people on fire.
At that moment they notice that rats are running and they wonder what they are running from. They turn on the night vision and at that moment the tarantula like creatures emerge and start to attack them.
cloverfieldmonsterart07
Marlena gets hurt the worst her whole back been bitten while Hud has hurt his leg.
They crawl off the train tracks and into a room and decide whatever option they take they are going to die, so they might as well get out of here and try get back above ground.
They enter a department store and Marlena is looking really ill. At that moment the army emerges and says they have found four survivors and take them into a room where all the other survivors are (nearly all are near dead) at that moment Marlena starts bleeding from here eye and everybody starts screaming she is infected and they drag her into a sealed place and you see blood splatter everywhere (it looks like the shot her or she exploded, but you don’t see it happen).
Lily, Rob and Hud are in hysterics and they tell the army guy they are going to rescue Beth whether he likes it or not. He tells them if the can be back by 6.00 the helicopters will pick them up and take them to safety. The army guy also tells them that the armed forces are going to take one more go at blowing up the monster and if it doesn’t work they are going to leave NY to the monster and let the city be destroyed.
cloverfieldmonsterart01

They leave the place and run to Beth’s apartment to see that it is leaning over onto another apartment, They decide to go up the opposite building and then cross where the building has fallen into the other one to get in to Beth’s room (39th floor). They climb up and cross and find Beth alive but impaled on a pole going through her shoulder.
Despite her pleas they pull her off and they hobble off out of the building and into the street, While they were in the building another tarantula tries to attack them but they kill t. They make it to helicopters and lily goes off in one. The next one arrives and Hud, Beth and Rob get on it.
As they fly off they see the monster be what they think is blown up. As they cheer out of the smoke it suddenly strikes the helicopter and it crashes into Central park. They survive though the pilot is dead. You see that NY is pretty much destroyed. Rob’s head is hurt and they have to drag him from the wreckage and his leg is badly hurt.
As they start walking off, Hud is lagging behind and suddenly looks up and the monster is looking down at him ( it is the only clear shot you see of the monster. It looks like a dinosaur but with crab like legs and a sort of elephanty looking face (minus the trunk).
It bites Hud and kills him and spits him out and the camera. The camera lies on the ground filming Hud’s dead face in the grass going sharp and blurry for a few secs, before Rob picks up the camera and him and Beth hide under a bridge in the park.

Rob films himself saying his name and tells people that if they are watching this they know more than him. He turns the camera to Beth who says her name and at that moment the bridge is blown up and collapses on them. You see the from the view of the camera that rocks are piling up on it and you hear Rob say ‘I love you’ to Beth and the reply ‘I love you too’.
The screen cuts back to the tape it has been recording over and you see a video of Rob filming Beth. He tells here there are two seconds left on the camera and what does she have to say. She replies ‘I had a great day’ and the camera goes blank. Credits come up. No soundtrack. Everyone died, except you never find out what happened to Lily in the first helicopter. You never find out what happened to the monster. You never find out what happened to NYC.

Cloversplash
After the credits, footage is seen of Rob and Beth on vacation in front of a body of water. You see something drop from the sky into the water behind them. Cuts to black. You hear a male whisper, “What now?” End. No wait till credits end, you will hear an audio. We have it here after an animated image of the monster. Story by Celebridiot.com
THERE you have been Spoiled. Watch it, it is worth the view.

cloverfieldsmalleq0
Audio Clip it the last thing you hear after the movie credits end.
"its alive." I am thinking part 2 here.

If you want to get some Pre- Story, JJ Abrams worked on a comic book in Japanese which begins with how our NY monster may have been created or awakened. Unfortunately, i don't read japanese.

Cloverfield's monster is a confused "baby" who's been underwater for thousands of years, but there's not much explanation of his origins. The monster scratches his back against a building to remove a layer of "horrifying, dog-sized" crab-like parasites, which move incredibly quickly and wreak havoc throughout the city. [Slashfilm]

More Cloverfield related viral videos.

The Cloverfield viral game has finally begun to catch up with the film, which releases in less than two weeks. Here are some very sweet videos that hint a little more towards how big this sucker is.
From /Film:
"Watch these fictional Italian, Spanish and German news clips to see AWESOME firsthand footage of the Chaui Station meltdown, and the first (off screen) appearances of the Cloverfield Monster."

Update: Dennis has received translations:
Spanish
[START]
This is an amazing story. Three short and highly dramatic scenes have just been disclosed, which seem to be showing the total loss of a rig in the middle of the ocean. The rig seems to be Chouai Station, which lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and sank a few days ago, even though there’s been no official confirmation of the incident.
This is the video, shot from a helicopter which is either approaching or leaving the rig:
[footage]
This rig harbours over 300 workers and scientists. The video seems to show it breaking apart and sinking in a matter of minutes, even though this kind of modern rigs are designed to keep afloat under the worse circumstances up to 24 hours.
It’s something absolutely extraordinary. Experts are studying this footage and trying to determine the causes of this tragedy. Some sources even suggest the rig may have suffered some kind of attack.
Tagruato, the Japanese company that runs the rig was forced to appear publicly and make a hasty statement when the footage was disclosed.
Their spokesperson said it has been confirmed that the Tidowave eco group was in the area when the incident took place and he maintains that the group has infiltrated Tagruato operations in the past causing damage. This footage, shot with a mobile phone on the rig seem to confirm this possibility:
[footage]
Whatever the cause, the violence of this event was registered by the Seismological Institute in Ribadeo (real town on the north-western coast of Spain). The scientists at the institute doubt this kind of effect can be the result of a human-made explosion.
The incredible speed, the scale of the event, and the sheer drama of this incident are clearly shown by this last piece of footage, apparently shot by some crew members of the rig while trying to escape.

Cloverfield Monster revealed? Worth looking at.

cloverfieldmonster01 The Website claims that this is the creature, but is careful to not promise for sure. Of course JJ Abrams has been keeping the creature under wraps. The picture seems to be a concept piece to either a game or a movie. Later the website offered this update.

"UPDATE: Our good friend Pete over at /Film pointed out to us that this could be a video game mockup by Peter Konig’s company, Massive Black. He pointed out this image that shows clay figures of this and two other creatures on a table in the Massive Black office. My thoughts are that this could be for something else, but it also could be an early design for the Cloverfield monster. What I do know is that if you head over to Conceptart.org and check out Peter Konig’s designs, they all seem to fit into the same sort of vision. So while this may NOT be the monster from Cloverfield, it can’t be too far off. Also, for those of you visual ninjas out there, you can take a look at this slow-motion trailer clip and compare the real monster to the one in the above image. And be sure to let us know what you think…"

We think: Although we want to believe that this is the actual monster, the overly human aspects of the image makes us believe that if this is the monster it is not original enough for the shock and awe we are hoping to expect.

UPDATE: The Monster is confirmed to be an unrelated video game creature.
